W'MENSWEAR 'KAREN-PUNK' SILVER RING
In working with women artisans throughout Thailand we always seek out to highlight women who are committed to preserving craftsmanship and authenticity. Presenting a new partnership with Karen tribe artisan, Dada, from the Phra Bat Huai Tom village in Northern Thailand. Together, we have developed a range of punk-inspired silver jewellery, made the traditional way of the Karen people. Known for their expertise in molding, soldering, and engraving with intricate detail; Karen silversmithing is an artform that embodies centuries-old beliefs. With a higher silver content than sterling silver, Karen silver has a bright colour and unique malleability.
Northern Thailand has been home to Karen communities from Myanmar (Burma) since 1949 when Karen nationalists began fighting for an independent state across the border. Their fight is part of the wider internal conflict in Myanmar between the military government and minority groups throughout the country, that still rages today.
This line of “Karen-Punk” silver jewellery, is influenced by the anti-establishment views of punk rock music, as well as the promotion of individual freedom, and do-it-yourself ethics.
This Silver Ring is made from recycled 97% silver. Every piece is handmade. Don't see your size? send us an email at info@wmenswear.com
