“Diesel Fueled Defiance” is inspired by women on the forefront of car racing during the civil rights movements of the 60s, when an increasingly virulent sentiment toward women was under way. These women would do whatever it took for the taste of adventure that racing cars brought to their lives.
This season we partnered with our local friends 'Songbird' on an artisan made leather mule. Songbird is a woman owned independent brand who have grown a cult following for their artisanal shoes over the past decade.
For this collaboration, a "Diesel Fueled Defiance" racing check motif has been laboriously made from end-of-production leathers stitched together for the uppers. Each shoe is made start to finish by a small team of artisan operators, down the road from our studio in Bangkok.
The lining, sole, and outer sole are made from vegetable tanned leather. For better grip, we bonded rubber to the soles.
