Inspired by the women of the Mercury 13 program who pioneered female advancement in spaceflight, the Randolph Engineering x W'menswear collaboration speaks to women that push through barriers and pave the way for the next generation by exploring the various meaning of femininity. Leveraging Yates’ experience re-working vintage military garments and apparel, the collection partnered with small-scale female artisan producers to rework vintage military C-9 parachutes, used in military and civilian jumps, to create one-of-a-kind pieces.
The unisex pullover parka is sandwich quilted with a lightweight fill, and packs away into an inner pouch. The safety orange body was inspired by early flight jackets that could aid rescue visibility in the case of a plane crash. The kangaroo pocket closes on each side with sandblasted metal zippers, while the hood and hem can be adjusted with a vintage cotton herringbone drawstring.
